Chuck:
I’d like to read something to start out that I thought was very apropos:

If you have found a smile
that is the sweetest one you’ve known.
If you have heard, within a voice,
the echoes of your own.
If you have felt a touch
that stirs the longings of your heart,
And still can feel that closeness
in the moments you’re apart.
If you have filled with wonder
at the way two lives can blend.
To weave a perfect pattern
that is seamless, end to end.
If you believe some things in life
are simply meant to be,
Then you have found your soul mate,
your heart’s own destiny.
(Soul Mate ~Emily Matthews)

Good afternoon, and welcome to this very special ceremony that Jim and Geri have invited us to share.
I’d just like to say a couple words.
I’ve been involved with the Zahner clan for years and years ~ from Geri’s kids baby-sitting mine, to birthdays, weddings, family picnics, even threw in a bar mitzvah just to make things interesting; and every time we got together we just created new memories that were very special
When I first met Jim, it was meeting “Jim and Geri.” I’ll never forget that day ~ We went to lunch and inside of five minutes, it was apparent that this relationship was very special.
Have you ever met a couple whose relationship, on its own, seems to have its own soul, and you actually see the chemistry and compatibility working its magic between the two? And that’s what I saw. And I came away after a couple of hours, big smile inside my soul knowing that my dear friend Geri had found her soul mate.
So, I knew someday, these two would bond in commitment and so here we are today and the path that they have created, a very special kind of love that’s so rare to find in one’s lifetime, but they did find it and they seized the moment and made it right and suddenly their whole universe changed. And now they have the comfort and peace of mind that they will always have their loved one by their side, no matter what.
And isn’t it wonderful being a part of this particular celebration knowing that these two “kids” are going to make it, (laughter) because they already have! (more laughter)
Jim and Geri, you’re surrounded by your family and friends, thank you for sharing with us today. I know that you have your own words you want to say to each other. Thank you for sharing them with us and I invite you to do so now.

Exchanging Vows

Jim:

Thank you for being here and celebrating this wonderful occasion with us. This is truly an awesome group in this room.
This is my second and final marriage. My first wife, Christine, passed away in 1980. She was a wonderful, beautiful person, and we miss her very much.
She gave me two things:
One, my wonderful son, David, who’s here from Virginia to be my best man ~ He’s grown up to be a fine, hard-working, amazing man. Thank you very much, David. I’m very proud of you.
The other thing is...The Steinhardt family. Her parents and brother and sisters, who’ve been totally supportive through all of these years. Four of them are here today all the way from Michigan. My only sister is here from California. Also, today getting, officially, another huge family (laughter), Geri’s family...Her children and grandchildren are here today.
Thank you very much, all of you, for being here.
Geri, four years ago when we met I started living a dream of a lifetime. Your eyes, your smiles...I can see that you truly love me.
I know that your devotion to your family and friends is truly remarkable. Your hardships through your life have never taken your spirit and your kindness. You managed to raise a fabulous family, so how could I not fall in love with you?
I make some promises to you now:
I promise to take care of you. I promise to keep you safe. I promise to keep a roof over your head and food on the table. I promise to hug you and make you laugh many times every day. And I promise to love you with all my heart for the rest of my life.

Chuck:
Thanks. Very nice, Jim.
Geri...

Geri:

I wrote these vows, and had some thoughts about how wonderful Jim is and the most important thing from what I wrote is that, when I met him, I began to believe in love again. I’m not going to read these vows because his words were so very special. I just want to tell him that it is because he is so loving and caring and thoughtful and fun...and he’s everything that I’ve ever hoped for, and I thank God every day that He led me to Jim. And because of that, I want to promise him, in front of all of you, our family and friends, that I will love you as my husband, no matter what life may bring, for as long as we both shall live. And I love you with all my heart.

Chuck:
Jim, I understand you wish to present Geri with a symbol of this occasion, a wedding ring.
Dave, if you would, hand that to your father.
Jim:
I marry you with this ring, the symbol of my love and faithfulness.
I ask you to wear it as a reminder of the vows we have spoken here today, our wedding day.
Geri:
And I promise I will wear this ring forevermore as a sign that I choose you as my husband forever,
throughout our whole life, and nothing will ever change that.

Chuck:
May your love and devotion go on for many many years and not only serve as inspiration to the two of you,
but to all who know you who just might be seeking the very thing that the two of you have found with each
other...And it is my distinct pleasure and honor to be the very first to announce to all as husband and wife:
Geri and Jim Heasly!
And, Jim, won’t you please kiss your wife?

Dave:

Thank you for everyone coming and being here. My Dad, through loss and raising a son all alone, he has always been a happy person; but I always was worried that there was something missing and then four years ago he met Geri and from the first time when I saw them together, I knew that that happiness was full and complete. And I just want to thank you for bringing that joy to his life, Geri, I really do.

Geri:
He’s brought so much joy to mine!
Dave:
And from the bottom of my heart, I wish you both the best.
Geri:
And thank you all for being here and sharing this with us. It means so much to us.
Zeke:
Enjoy your captivity!

Art:

Ginnie and I ~ we’ve known this couple and we’re so impressed and happy for the two of them, and we see the beginnings of a marriage that can last as long as ours did.

Jim:

Well, we cannot keep up with Art and Ginnie. They are everywhere and they’re there after we leave. Theirs is an amazing story and if you get a chance, talk to them.

Art:
Thank you.

Geri:

Thank you both so much for being the wonderful, wonderful, wonderful friends you are, and the wonderful inspiration you are to so many.

Donna:

I’ve known Geri since we were little girls in first grade and these four years seem like forever that they’ve been together and I’m so thankful God brought Jim to Geri. God bless you.

Chuck:
Well, apparently they haven’t changed their minds, (laughter)
so we’re going to go make it legal now! (more laughter)
